Privacy
Janaza notices are public by design: they tell the community when and where a burial takes place. This page explains what else we collect, why, and how to ask us to correct or remove it.
What we collect
- Details of the deceased and the burial, as published on each notice.
- Names of relatives, as the family provides them.
- The informant’s name and phone number. The phone number is shown on the notice only if the informant agrees.
- Your WhatsApp number or email when you verify yourself to submit a notice or a correction.
- Optional private records (NIC number, death certificate, JMO report). Only admins and moderators can see them; they are never published.
How long we keep it
- Home addresses are hidden from the public 14 days after the burial; only the area is shown after that.
- Verification codes are deleted after two days.
- Private documents are kept for the period agreed with the Galle Janaza administration, then deleted.
Corrections and removal
Use “Suggest a correction” on any notice, or write to info@gallejanaza.com. We handle requests about living relatives and informants under Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022.
